Although it’s not news about high heels, we found it to be very interesting. Just reading the original news topic title had us imagining two women fighting over a pair! We should have remembered the other incident back before Christmas with the re-release of the Nike Air Jordan XI. It’s amazing how people will fight over a pair of shoes! The shoes in this incident were part of the Nike All-Star collection, with a galactic theme inspired by space exploration. Their release is designed as a nod to Orlando and Florida’s space industry.

The launch of an expensive new basketball shoe, the Nike Foamposite Galaxy, which was timed to Orlando’s hosting of the NBA All-Star Game this weekend, triggered a near-riot Thursday night at Florida Mall. The mall, which is located in Orlando, FL, had closed at 9 p.m. the crowd was asked to wait across the street when the mall closed at 9 p.m., but one person made a mad dash toward the Foot Locker where the shoes were to go on sale, and hundreds followed. The wild scene erupted about 9:45 p.m. as hundreds of people packed the mall’s parking lot, hoping to buy the new shoe at midnight. People drove in from Jacksonville and even flew in from New Haven to try to get a pair of these shoes.

The actions of these people resulted in the shoes not being released as was planned. In the end, in Florida two people were arrested on tresspassing charges Thursday and a third person, a woman, was arrested Friday morning for fighting outside Foot Locker. A similar scene played out at a Washington, D.C. area mall early Friday where fans waited to get the Nike Foamposite Galaxy shoes. Police in Hyattsville, MD, made one arrest, as the crowd there was estimated at over 100. Early Friday, Foot Locker announced that it was canceling the shoe’s release at certain malls and stores. “Our priority is the safety of the community,” Foot Locker said in a statement.
